On June 14, 1777 - Congress adopted what we call The Stars and Stripes or Ole Glory as the Official Flag of the United States of America. In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed it as a National Observance.
A few of The American Legion Post will have a Flag Retirement Ceremony
on Flag Day Saturday, June 14th, they will have one at Alaska Boys State and one at Alaska Girls State. If you have never seen or taken part of this solemn ceremony, I would like to request that you take the opportunity.
This ceremony will affect you in various ways that you will always remember. It is one of the ways to show respect for those that have given all to defend it and the Great Nation it represents.
We still have a few Squadrons that have not taken the opportunity to turn in your Certification of Squadron
Officers, please do so as soon as possible. This helps the Detachment Commander, Brent Willden, and myself in having points of contact at your Squadron.
There are several Squadrons that have not sent in their Consolidated Squadron Report Form. Please send them to the Detachment Headquarters
at 1550 Charter Circle, Anchorage,
Alaska 99508. The goal is to have 100% Squadrons reporting this year.
As of writing this article we have had all nineteen (19) Squadrons turn in membership so far for the 2008 Membership year. Chappie James Squadron #34 still has a commanding lead at 180%, and closely followed by George H. Plumley Memorial Squadron #20 with 156.0%, Seward Squadron #5 with 150.9%. Spenard Squadron #28 drafting into 104.9% and Auke Bay Squadron #25 with 103.6%. Ninilchik Squadron #18 and Peters Creek Squadron #33 tied with 100%. Great job Drivers and Pit Crews. Congratulations you are in Victory Lane!
Congratulations to George H. Plumley Memorial Squadron #20, Seward Squadron #5, Spenard Squadron
#28 and Auke Bay Squadron #25 they have also obtained New All Time Highs in Membership for their Squadron in their Race to Victory Lane!
As a Detachment we did not quite make it over the finish line on the Spring Racing Series Race #9 we should have finished with a least 100% and we ended a little short of the goal line.
The Detachment as a whole has 1374 members transmitted out of our year-end goal of 1484. This is equivalent to 92.6% of our goal. We only need 11110 members to reach the 100% goal. Remember that membership
is everyones responsibility! Keep up the great job racing to the Winners Circle and cruising in Victory
Lane with 100% membership.
We are now starting the Race Championship Series Race #10 with the finish line of 105%.
Remember The green flag has been dropped so GENTLEMEN: REVV UP YOUR ENGINES&AND LETS ALL MAKE IT INTO VICTORY LANE!!
Squadron Commanders remember you are the Drivers and you must be super-versatile. The driver cant be daydreaming &he must concentrate on the racetrack so they can be cruising
in victory lane at 100%.
The Squadron Membership Chairman
and all Squadron Members are the Pit Crews. They have all been working hard recruiting and retaining membership. They work not only membership, but also all of the programs of the Sons of The American Legion. Everyone is part of our TEAM.
